Paul Butler's practice merges artmaking with community building, which has inevitably led him to the work of Canadian artist Greg Curnoe (1936–1992). Based in London, Ontario, Curnoe was deeply committed to advancing the rights of artists while fostering visual arts in his hometown from the 1960s onward, until his sudden death in a cycling accident in 1992. Bicycles were an important subject in the work of Curnoe, who was an avid cyclist and member of the London Centennial Wheelers.

Screening of the documentary Spoke
Spoke examines cycling as a viable form of transportation while addressing the infrastructure enhancements needed to improve Toronto’s quality of life. By addressing the difficulties faced by the cycling community, through first-person accounts and chronicles of the city’s cycling infrastructure, Spoke identifies the need for citizen involvement in municipal politics. Juxtaposing the different perspectives of city representatives and cycling advocates the film facilitates candid dialogue between these separate communities.
Spoke is an exhibition running June 1 - 16 focusing on biking in Toronto.
Spoke examines cycling as a viable form of transportation while addressing the infrastructure enhancements needed to improve Toronto’s quality of life.
Spoke provides a first hand perspective of the experience of biking in Toronto through an interactive simulation installation.

Trinity-St.Paul’s United Church and the Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts invite you to our second annual Bike Blessing. Ministers will be blessing bikes and riders and asking for protection for all who ride. We will give thanks for the simple beauty of the bicycle and the mobility it gives us to explore our city. What an excellent way to begin Bicycle Month in Toronto and to get ready for Bike to Work Day on Monday, May 30th.
