Rathburn Road Bike Lanes Open House
We invite you to attend a Public Open House to learn more about this project, which runs from Kipling Ave.- to Mimico Creek on Rathburn Rd.
Drop by anytime to view information displays, provide your comments and speak one on one with project staff.
Background
In 2001, Toronto City Council adopted the Toronto Bike Plan. This Plan calls for the creation of a comprehensive Bikeway Network throughout the city, and includes the introduction of bicycle lanes on Rathburn Road from Mimico Creek to Islington Avenue.
A public consultation for this project was conducted Thursday May 28th, 2009. In August 2009, City Council approved installation of bike lanes on Rathburn between Islington Avenue and Kipling Avenue. City Council also directed City staff to conduct further public consultation for the section of this project between Mimico Creek and Kipling Avenue within Ward 3.
This cross section drawing illustrates a 9.8m midblock cross section, typical to this part of Rathburn Rd. A 1.7 m bicycle lane may be incorporated into the street without impacting traffic capacity. No on-street parking will be affected by this project.
The study area would connect existing bike lanes on Rathburn Rd. between The East Mall and Mimico Creek, and approved bike lanes Rathburn Rd. between Kipling and Islington.
Next Steps
Following this consultation, City Staff will review any comments received. We plan to submit this project for consideration to Public Work and Infrastructure Committee (PWIC) meeting on April 20, 2010. We anticipate Rathburn Rd. bike lane project will be considered by City council on May 11-13, 2010.
If approved, bike lanes on Rathburn Rd. are planned to be installed in summer 2010.
We would like to hear from you
Public consultation is an important part of this study.
