Safe Routes to School meeting

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 - 18:00

The Lakeshore Planning Council Bike Subcommittee and LAMP are hosting a meeting to establish a Safe Cycle to School working group.

City Parent magazine had a picture of a bicycle on the cover as a way to fight childhood Type 2 diabetes. There is an opportunity to get a government grant to hire a coordinator to start the program up in Ward 6 as a health initiative. The working group will be looking at ways to apply for funding.

Ward 6 is a good test pilot case for Toronto. The trustee, Bruce Davis, is keen on the idea. He is Chair of the TDSB. There are schools on bike lanes with Principals who want such a program begun in their school. Finally, there is strong community support.
