Part concert, part theatrical performance, SPIN is an inventive musical show that investigates the BICYCLE as musical instrument, muse and instrument of social change.
Through a series of songs played live on a vintage bicycle, award-winning Toronto songwriter and actor Evalyn Parry welds social history, social commentary, song, monologue and projections, into a tale that travels from 19th century feminism to the end of oil. From Annie Londonderry, the first woman to ride around the world in 1895, to Igor Kenk, Toronto’s most notorious and contradictory bicycle thief, SPIN is about the pursuit of two-wheeled freedom in a four-wheeled world.
Following the sold-out workshop presentation of SPIN at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s Hysteria Festival in October 2009, The Toronto Cyclists Union is now pleased to bring SPIN to Toronto audiences for a warm-up to the city’s annual Bike Month.
